“Live This, Not That” Guide to a Blessed Life via Psalm 1

Russell Minick Crown Heart World

Psalm 1

Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.

He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.

Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
for the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

– English Standard Version

Doing this, not that:

1.1 Not progressing towards being defined by cynicism (walk ->stand -> sit).

1.2 Rather, joyfully taking in wisdom and constantly processing it.

 Described like this, not that:

1.3 Like a stream fed tree: fruitful, fresh and flourishing.

1.4 Not like chaff: discarded waste.

 Destiny is this, not that:

1.5 Not alienated by own guilt, but belonging with good community.

1.6 Cared for by the Eternal, not doomed to ruin.

Summary:

The poet behind Psalm 1 shows 2 ways to live: a right way and a rebellious way.

  • The rebellious way is what we show in column 2 of CrownHeartWorldchwcaptured
  • The righteous way is what we show in column 4 of CrownHeartWorld
